    Responsibilities

    What you’ll do:

    Under the direction of the Maintenance Leader, this position will organize and plan all aspects of plant maintenance jobs including placing and expediting work orders, coordination of preventive maintenance programs for equipment and/or other areas of the plant, negotiating supplier agreements, coordinating payment and delivery issues, etc. in a lean manufacturing and distribution environment.

    The Maintenance Planner-Buyer will coordinate repairs, services and overhauls of equipment for the plant.  This position will assist in the management of the MRO budget for the business and will manage relationships with internal and external customers. They develop bill of materials, and update and develop PM’s.  They will prepare and analyze periodic reports relating to performance of: available manpower, backlog of written work orders, routine operating tasks, project work schedules, and preventive maintenance programs.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Responsible at all times for promoting a safety culture and awareness within their area of responsibility.  Ensures that all tasks are completed in a safe manner, along with improving tasks to ensure safety.  Ensures all safety procedures are followed at all times (PPE, Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Arc Flash, etc.)
    2. Understand the manufacturing process to handle daily production and maintenance related transactions.
    3. Plans work orders.  Works with maintenance and production management and individual maintenance associates to plan and schedule work through the following tasks:
      1. Develops Bill of Material (B.O.M.).
      2. Estimates total work costs (parts and labor).
      3. Makes sketches/drawings as required.
      4. Facilitates part requests from maintenance associates.
      5. Improves efficiencies of planning functions.
      6. Analyzes job performance measures for continued improvement.
    4. Provides documented analysis of breakdown reports.  Uses breakdown reports to recommend and implement corrective action, preventive/predictive maintenance, and continuous improvement.
    5. Maintains/improves the existing preventive maintenance program.  Works with maintenance and production management, individual maintenance associates, and production associates to develop a detailed preventive maintenance program for all equipment.
    6. Documents activities of the maintenance departments and reports maintenance status to production.
    7. Participates on process improvement teams and promotes teamwork.
    8. Source, quote, negotiate, select and expedite suppliers in compliance with all Corporate and Plant purchasing policies and procedures as well as SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) regulations.
    9. Consolidate the supplier base and negotiate supplier stocking/consignment agreements.
    10. Resolve payment and delivery issues and/or refer issues to appropriate management team member for resolution.
    11. Assist in the selection and scheduling of vendor training where appropriate.
    12. Identify and champion opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives.
    13. Incorporate principles of lean manufacturing such as 5S, key TPS elements, etc.
    14. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    What you’ll need:

    1. Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization
    2. Excellent communications skills – ability to communicate clearly and concisely in multiple media – verbal, written, etc.
    3. Excellent organizational/time management skills.
    4. Knowledge of TPM and maintenance planning.
    5. Strong mechanical aptitude and experience
    6. Technical knowledge including PLC/controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, etc.
    7. Machine tool experience
    8. Generalist electrical, mechanical and facilities experience, with expertise in at least one of those areas.
    9. Ability to prioritize work assignments in a fast-paced work environment, calm under pressure and flexibility to adapt to changing schedules as appropriate.
    10. Strong computer skills (SAP, WMS, and MS Office Suite).
    11. In-depth knowledge of production operation, including equipment, materials, work flow, etc.

     

    Education:

    1. High school diploma required, Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree or vocational certificate in maintenance or engineering field preferred.
    2. 3-5 years proven experience MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Operations) buying and planning in a fast-paced manufacturing environment preferred.
